The music release schedule for 2020 was thrown into chaos due to the coronavirus pandemic, but in quarter four, we’re getting spoiled – thanks to Miley Cyrus.

The pop star has confirmed that she is dropping her new album next month, and it will contain her viral cover of The Cranberries’ hit Zombie.

The 27-year-old announced that her album Plastic Hearts would be released on November 27 in a handwritten note shared on Twitter.

The Midnight Sky singer wrote: ‘If you’re reading this know that I f***ing LOVE + APPRECIATE you on the deepest level. I began this album over two years ago. Thought I had it all figured out. Not just the record – its songs/sounds but by whole f***ing life. NO ONE checks an ego like life itself.

‘Just when I thought the body of work was finished it was ALL erased. Including  most of the music’s relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed.

‘Nature did what I now see as a favour + destroyed what I couldn’t let go of for myself. I lost my house in a fire but found myself in its ashes.’

The home Miley shared with then-husband Liam Hemsworth in Malibu was badly burned in the Woolsey Fire in November 2018.

The couple got married the following month, but announced their split in summer 2019.

The former Disney star continued: ‘My collaborators still had most of the music that was burned up in journals/computers filled with songs for the EP series I was working on at the time. But it never felt right to release “my story” (each record being a continual autobiography) with a HUGE chapter missing.

‘If it were a chapter in my book I guess I would call it – “The Beginning” which usually when something is over we call it “The End”. But it was far from that.

‘In triumph and gratitude I present to you by 7th studio record, Plastic Hearts. To be released 11/27/2020.

‘Well that’s “the plan” anyway – had one of those before… But seriously – it’s really coming. Think you’ll love it – if you don’t – f*** you. xx MC.’

And the cover also released by Miley is serving major Debbie Harry/Joan Jett vibes, with the pink and black artwork showing the star wearing leather gloves, chains, a t-shirt reading ‘Censored’ and heavy make-up – as well as that mullet.

In response to a number of fans, Miley confirmed that Plastic Hearts will be a rock album.

However, we doubt this is the Metallica covers album Miley has also promised.

It comes after The Cranberries called Miley’s cover of Zombie ‘one of the finest covers of the song that we’ve heard’ and that late frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan ‘would be very impressed’, after she sang the classic at the virtual #SaveOurStages Fest in Los Angeles.

Miley’s last album Younger Now, containing the single Malibu, was released in September 2017, and while it was her least successful to date, it still reached number five in the US charts and cracked the UK top 10.

The Hannah Montana star has had three number one albums throughout her career – 2007’s Meet Miley Cyrus, 2008’s Breakout, and 2013’s Bangerz, aka the twerking era.

Miley is the latest popstar to confirm they are releasing new music before the end of the year, with Ariana Grande’s new album also coming.

It has been speculated that Adele will drop her eagerly-anticipated fourth album, too, as the star is hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend.
