You’ve Got To Be Kidding: A Disneyland Rock and Roll Event – MiceChat

You’ve Got To Be Kidding is satire. Take a moment to enjoy your coffee and have a laugh at something lighthearted . . .

On again, off again, on again, off again… It’s almost impossible to know when we’ll be experiencing the joys of Disney parks once more. And, to make matters worse, there was the shattering news that the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties have been canceled.

But there is good news hidden behind Disney’s notorious veil of secrecy. Imagineers have been designing a blockbuster after-hours Disneyland event titled “Disneyland After Dark -Rock ‘N Roll Evenings.”

The event will be “rolled” out (excuse the pun) shortly after all park restrictions are eliminated. So, for now, everything is being kept very hush-hush. However, we’ve got the early scoop. And we’re here to whet your appetite with a glimpse of what is to come.

Entertainment

Rather than develop a new parade, Disney quickly realized it had the perfect offering with “Celebrate: A Street Party”, a parade replete with rock and roll offerings. And who doesn’t like watching Mary Poppins dance to “I Love Rock ‘N Roll”?

The “Disneyland Forever” fireworks show will be adapted to the rock and roll theme as well. Titled “Rock ‘N Roll Forever”, the music and projections are based on rock acts that have performed in Disneyland over the years. Expect to be wowed and amazed by vintage performances by Annette Funicello, the Kids of the Kingdom, The Carpenters, Buster Poindexter, and lots of The Osmonds.

It goes without saying that live entertainment will be a big part of the event. Throughout the park, guests will enjoy such acts as The Dapper Steely Dans, The Stray Cat Strutters, and Billy Cypress Hill and the Insane in the Brainbillies. But the big news is that the Fantasyland Theater will once again become Videopolis. This is where you’ll go to see such Disney rock tribute bands as Pink Elephant Floyd, Zootopia Police, Queen of Hearts, The Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, Alice in Chainsderland, Big Country Bears, Beauty and the Beastie Boys singing “You Gotta Fight for Your Right to Party as Our Guest”, and Sebastian Gabriel singing “Under the Seaseaseadio”

Attractions

This is where the Imagineers are pulling out all the stops, adapting as many Disney attractions as possible.

“it’s a small world” will be populated with international rocks acts, their songs woven into the Small World soundtrack. Included will be Germany’s Kraftwerk, Canada’s Barenaked Ladies, Australia’s Men at Work, Sweden’s Abba, and Japan’s holographic star, Hatsune Miku. However, what we are most looking forward to is South Korea’s PSY and “Small World Style.”

The Jungle Cruise will be rebranded as “The Jungle Rock ‘N Cruise” featuring a cavalcade of jungle-related rock. It all starts, appropriately enough, with Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle”. From there, Elton John sings “Crocodile Rock” at the Cambodian temple, Gorillaz plays over the safari camp, Fleetwood Mac performs “Tusk” as you glide between the African elephants, the pride of lions will stand guard as The Tokens perform “The Zebra Sleeps Tonight”, and the lost safari will continue to climb that tree to Jethro Tull’s “Bungle in the Jungle”. However, the highlight of the trip will be TLC’s “Don’t Go Chasing the Backside of Waterfalls.”

Gadget’s Go Coaster will become Gadget’s OK Go Coaster where guests will propel the ride vehicles forward by walking on treadmills.

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride will convert to Toad the Wet Sprocket’s Wild Ride – a madcap musical trip that starts out in obscurity, climbs the heady heights of semi-fame, and ends in the hell of “Where are they now?”

The Snow White attraction will become Snow White Stripes Scary Adventures where the scary part is that you have to listen to the music of The White Stripes.

And other projects include Turtle Talking Heads with Crush Byrne, and Machine Gun Kelly’s Shooting Gallery.

Of course, a lot of interesting ideas wound up on the cutting room floor. Surprisingly, the use of Dada’s “I’m going to Dizz Knee Land” was in development for quite a while. There were also extensive plans for using the music of Aerosmith (based on their involvement with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.) Projects such aa Janies’ Got a Gun Shooting Gallery, Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough this Way, and the Sweet Emotion Candy Shop were well underway when, apparently, someone finally explained to Disney executives the meaning of the words in some of the songs. Everything was unceremoniously scrapped. (And they thought Steven Tyler’s actions during the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster preshow were a problem.)
