The seven-member Korean boy band, BTS, has taken K-Pop mainstream. First the first time, huge numbers of fans in the Western world are eagerly anticipating the band’s new music- and they may not have to wait long. Based on the impressive detective skills of BTS fans all over the internet, a new theory has emerged that BTS may be releasing new music very soon. Here are the details.
A new BTS album may be on the way based on this fan theory
BTS fans may have a new album to look forward to very soon. Based on a theory, which analyzes the group’s normal release schedule, fans are assuming new music is in the works, possibly for October this year.
Most artists release new music about once every couple of years. They have a cycle which they follow, starting with the release and promotion of a few singles, then the album drops. Next, the artist will go on tour to promote the new music. Once they return home, they take about a year off before returning to the studio and starting the cycle all over again.
But BTS is different. They don’t follow this cycle. Perhaps, it’s the impressive work ethic that goes along with Asian culture. But in the past, BTS has released about two albums every year. Way more than most Western artists.
At the beginning of 2019, BTS released Map of the Soul: Persona. Since it’s about midway through the year, fans are expecting the second part of Map of Soul to be released super soon. And they think they’ve figured out the name of the new album too.
In the music video for Persona, there’s a chalkboard featured prominently throughout the video, with tons of writing and drawing all over it. When fans zoomed in on the chalkboard, they realized the words “Persona,” “Shadow,” and “Ego” was written on the board. Based on this, they believe that the next two albums will be called, Map of the Soul: Shadow, and Map of the Soul: Ego. That makes the next album to be released, possibly to be called, Map of the Soul: Shadow.
Wow. BTS fans are super sleuths. Big Hit Entertainment, the management company for BTS, has not confirmed or denied any of this information.
Why are fans set on October for the release date of the next BTS album?
The reason October is marked with lots of stars and hearts in every BTS fan’s calendar is simple. Big Hit Entertainment released the band’s upcoming tour/performance schedule, and although there are performances spread throughout the next few months- October is especially packed. For that reason, fans believe October is when they can expect Map of the Soul: Shadow to be released.
Some fans are even going so far as to predict the exact date of the release, October 4 or October 23, based on clues in the band’s music videos.
BTS takes over the internet
Along with a huge number of musical releases, BTS has another accomplishment to add to their impressive resume. This month, Time magazine published their annual list of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet, and BTS made the list. This is the third year in a row that BTS has made the list, which includes other influential people, such as Ariana Grande, and Cardi B.
The fact that they’ve been included shows the extent of their influence on the Western world. Achievements, such as their record-breaking music video, Boy With Luv, which had 74.6 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours, only add their success.
If fans are correct, and a new album is released in October, will it follow the same path into record-breaking success? Only time will tell, but luckily, we don’t have long to wait.
