Q & A With CaliberSands From Lucid Afterlife – XS ROCK

XS ROCK: Tell me about the latest band news? Any new projects coming out, live shows or announcements?

CaliberSands: we have a new song we are adding as a bonus to the vinyl version of Descendant. Another tour in Latin America early next year. We are headlining the tattoo convention in June of next year.

XS ROCK: So how long has the band been together?

CaliberSands: The band was started around 2013 and the vocalist Nat Jack is the only original member. I joined the band in January of 2019 and Thom has been in the band for around 3 years believe.

XS ROCK: What was your main motivation for originally starting or being in a band?

CaliberSands: My main motivation for being in a band is that it’s just simply what I am most passionate about. It’s a form of expression and something that can be used to help inspire others. Music transcends any words that we try to use to speak.

XS ROCK: What is your music background?

CaliberSands: I grew up with live music being played quite frequently. My parents and most of my extended family are all musical in some way. I really started to have an interest in playing music when I was about 14. I played the bass at first then one day was shown some guitar chords by my dad and it took off from there. I am self taught and just learned by experimenting and jamming with other people.

XS ROCK: What image do you think your music conveys?

CaliberSands: that depends on what psychedelics you are on.

XS ROCK: What are your current music career goals?

CaliberSands: My current goals are to be able to support myself through music. I have a hard time asking for money for playing because I believe music is for sharing, but in our current reality it needs to happen at least at first so I can spend time doing what I love to do.

XS ROCK: Which do you prefer? Writing new songs and recording or playing for a live audience?

CaliberSands: I do like writing new songs and recording but I would have to say playing live for an audience is the best for me. It’s all about sharing your energy with the people and having them take something from the experience.

XS ROCK: What are your songs’ lyrics about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

CaliberSands: You would have to ask Nat-Jack more about that but spirituality would be one thing as well lucid dreaming and astral travel. Lyrics can mean different things to different people so I think it can be good to let people draw their own conclusions sometimes.

XS ROCK: What is the single most important thing to you as a musician?

CaliberSands: To inspire people to follow their dreams

XS ROCK: Do you have any outrageous tour stories from the road? If so, please fill us in.

CaliberSands: We were on the bus in Mexico coming back from the pyramids in Teotihuacan and it was raining really hard out. Suddenly there was a loud bang and the bus started drifting sideways in to a spin. We came to a hard stop on the highway which almost tipped us over after turning 180 degrees. The bus and a car had made contact with one another at the rear of the bus which actually ripped the bumper off the bus. About 10 minutes later we were on  another bus on our way.

XS ROCK: What’s the strangest request that you’ve ever received from one of your fans?

CaliberSands: To trace my hand over a woman’s boob and put my signature in the middle. So nothing too strange so far. ?

XS ROCK: Are your friends and family supportive of your choice to play in a rock band?

CaliberSands: Yes for sure I’ve always had friends and family be very supportive!

XS ROCK: What advice do you have for new bands trying to get started?

CaliberSands: Don’t give up. If it’s your passion and you follow it from a place of love then it will work out.

XS ROCK: What are your favorite tracks to play live?

CaliberSands: I really like playing all of them but to name a few This Is Real, One Eyed Angel War Machine, DMT.

XS ROCK: Which band or artist inspired you to perform? Why?

CaliberSands: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix definitely inspired me to perform. Mainly because of  how it made me feel when I saw them getting lost in the music. It’s like I could feel it in my soul. I like Angus Young’s energy from AC/DC as well.

XS ROCK: If you could design a dream tour for your band, who would be on the bill?

CaliberSands: The thing about dreams is you can have new ones every night so it would be forever changing.
