Considered one of the ten best jazz festivals in the world, returns for its 17th edition from November 29 to December 1 at its longtime home of Mamita’s Beach Club.
Dario Flota Ocampo, director of Quintana Roo Tourism Board, presented at The Reef 28 Hotel in Playa del Carmen the lineup for this year’s festival and said he felt proud to continue bringing internationally renowned musicians to share their talents with the nearly 50,000 guests that attend the free festival annually.
“For more than 16 years we’ve had performances from grand voices and this year will be no exception. I know we’ll have another great run this year and memorable new stories to tell,” said director Dario Flota Ocampo. He also announced The Reef 28 as this year’s host for the artists during their stay.
The festival’s first night presents lounge and electronic fusion from Sr. Mandril; Magos Herrera, one of the most expressive voices of contemporary jazz; and Chucho Valdés, one of the world’s best pianists and jazz artists.
The creativity of Natalia Marrokin will sweeten the second night with soul and blues; Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias will delight the public with her singular talent for fusing bossa nova and jazz; and with energetic sensuality, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will close the night with charisma.
Riviera Maya Jazz Festival’s third and final night will begin with the musical elegance of New York Voices and Pbug, the group beloved in Europe and Asia for its funk-jazz sound. English reggae-pop group and ‘80s icons UB40 will provide a grand finale for this 17th edition of one of the Mexican Caribbean’s most important events.
Festival organizers invited the general public to join the festivities on social media, where the festival will host giveaways to followers on Facebook @RivieraMayaJazz, Twitter @JazzRivieraMaya and Instagram @RivieraMayaJazzFest.
At the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival press conference, Jorge Maruzca, director of Mamita’s Beach Club, commented on keeping the festival’s beach site clean under the destination’s commitment to conservation. “We will have bags for guests to collect their trash at the end of each night. We’re very proud to be part of this festival since its beginning,” said Maruzca. Entrance to Riviera Maya Jazz Festival is free of charge. Guests who wish to bring seats or umbrellas will be assigned rear seating to watch the performances.
