More than a hundred Metallica fans rocked out to hits like “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters” from the safety of their vehicles at Concrete Street Amphitheater this weekend.
The one-night only event on Saturday offered fans in the Corpus Christi-area an intimate, up-close drive-in experience, kicking off the heavy metal band’s Encore Drive-In Nights film tour.
The concert movie, which was filmed in northern California, not only featured some of Metallica’s greatest hits but also featured rock band Three Days Grace, which is best known for hits like “Animal I Have Become” and “I Hate Everything About You.”
The film concert in Corpus Christi had two screenings on Saturday. The first showing was sold out and had a hundred vehicles in attendance. Another showing was available around midnight.
Those who attended the event were given four digital downloads of Metallica’s S&M2 album, which documents the two historic concerts that reunited the band and San Francisco Symphony for the first time in 20 years.
“Concertgoers can expect to see more shows like this one at Concrete Street this year,” said Mark Schaberg, general manager at the outdoor concert venue.
Schaberg said the amphitheater plans to announce a similar drive-in concert event on Sept. 26.
