2019 American Music Awards: Badass Women Like Lizzo and Taylor Swift Will Perform – Oprah Mag

  • The 2019 American Music Awards (AMAs) are rolling out the red carpet on Sunday, November 24, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
  • Headlining performers inlude Lizzo, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, and Billie Eilish.
  • Post Malone is leading the nominations with seven nods, including Artist of the Year, but Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are close on his tail with six noms each.

Lizzo’s feeling good as hell, Taylor’s trying to calm down, and we’re just thrilled for what’s in store for the unofficial kickoff of music awards season. The American Music Awards have announced this year’s lineup of performers and it’s sure to be a star-studded event.

If you’re unfamiliar, the night of the AMAs is when every corner of the music industry gathers in Los Angeles to celebrate the best in hip-hop, soul, R&B, country, pop, and beyond. In other words, it’s the one time we might get to see hitmakers BTS, Beyoncé, Elton John, and Lady Gaga all walk the very same red carpet and sit under the very same roof.

Just a little about the inner workings of the awards show: The nominees are chosen based on how they performed on Billboard’s charts, along with streaming and digital sales, touring success, and, of course, fan interaction. The winners, however, are decided entirely by you, the fans. But before you get to voting on your favorite idols, newcomers, and mainstays, read on for everything else there is to know about this year’s AMAs.

Set Your DVR: The AMAs air Sunday, November 24, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

The 2019 American Music Awards are set for Sunday, November 24, at 8 p.m. eastern, on ABC. The hardwood stage of the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles is getting primed to welcome the scuff marks of some of the most primo talent in the music industry.

There are a couple ways to catch the red carpet coverage.

Last year, we saw Taylor Swift rocking a twinkling disco ball minidress, Cardi B and Offset matching in formal attire, and Jennifer Lopez giving us major leg in hot pink. So this year, you don’t want to miss a single sartorial moment. The AMAs in the past have hosted their own livestream on Twitter, as well as aired pre-show red-carpet coverage on Facebook Watch. So keep an eye on this page for updated links.

Camila Cabello, Billie Eilish, and Lizzo join an all-star lineup of performers.

This year, it’s all about the ladies. Billie Eilish, who is nominated for six awards, and Lizzo, who is up for three, join Camila Cabello and Dua Lipa, who both performed last year, in the 2019 lineup. And we also have besties Selena Gomez, who just released new music with “Lose You to Love Me,” and Taylor Swift, whose Lover album is amazing, to look forward to. Swift is also the recipient of this year’s Artist of the Decade Award.

Post Malone is the most-nominated artist this year.

Post Malone, whose Hollywood’s Bleeding taps into melancholy and charm, is up for seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Favorite Album. Ariana Grande (a three-time winner) and Billie Eilish (a first-time nominee) are each vying for six—they’ll be battling it out with Halsey, Swift, and Billy Ray Cyrus/Lil Nas X for Favorite Music Video.

With five nods apiece, Lil Nas X and Swift are poised for huge nights. Country crossover star Billy Ray Cyrus, Ella Mai, and Khalid are each present in four categories.

Taylor Swift is on course to make history. Again.

Seems like the Lover artist always makes her mark on an awards show, be it with stage-and-Kanye West drama, front-row fangirling, or just plain winning. The AMAs are no different. Should Swift, who is also this year’s Artist of the Decade, take home two of the five trophies she’s up for, she’ll pass Michael Jackson as the all-time winningest AMA awardee.
